Fabric Printing

Long before writing books, people wanted to find a method of reproducing pictures so that many people could enjoy them. They were also interested in printing designs and repeated patterns on clothing and other of possessions. The earliest wood cut from Europe is dated somewhere in the 15th century.

Fabric (and paper) can be printed by inking a wood cut (I have used linoleum and rubber designed specifically for stamp carving), placing the fabric over it and rubbing until the design is transferred to the fabric.

This is a spear banner that I made for my husband by using a wooden stamp that I carved into the shape of a boar.
